My dog got vinegar in her eye, now it's swollen and gooey. What to do?

It's best if you can flush under the eyelid with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. You can make saline at home with salt and water if you don't have any, or you can't buy any. Detergents like Palmolive can cause irritation to the eye or could even cause a chemical burn to the surface of the cornea. I definitely think you should see your veterinarian later in the day - they might put a drop of stain in her eye and may prescribe eye drops. While it would be ideal to see your veterinarian right away I doubt there will be any serious complications from waiting a few hours. You could try flushing her eye with saline solution again and you should put an e-collar on her if she begins rubbing her eye.

Oh no, that's not good at all! Her eyes are extremely swollen and unfortunately without seeing her in person, I can't say what is causing it. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care. This could definitely be a problem, since ear medications are not formulated for use in the eye and can be very irritating. If you have some plain saline eye wash on hand, flush his eye out immediately - then, I would recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible. The biggest risk is that he may develop a corneal ulcer, which can be severe in some cases and could cause permanent damage or vision loss. Your vet can evaluate the eye to make sure that all of the medication has been rinsed out, and will probably send you home with prescription eye meds to help heal the cornea if there is an injury.

I'm sorry your pup isn't feeling well. He needs to be check for an ulcer or scratch of his cornea- he needs to see a vet for that. You can rinse with contact solution and if no improvement in 12 hours, I would take him to the vet. Good luck and kisses to your pup!

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment.
