My dog keeps eating grass daily. Is this normal or a health concern?

If this is a new thing then it may be that Izzy does have an upset stomach. If Izzy has always done this I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it is new then I would monitor and if any other symptoms develop bring Izzy to a veterinarian. Pets will eat grass when they are either bored or have an upset stomach. By eating the grass it will tickle their throat on the way down and usually cause them to vomit up whatever is upsetting their stomach. If Riley isn't vomiting or has a decreased appetite, then he is likely just bored. I would however refrain him from eating grass, to prevent him from having any vomiting episodes. This could indicate a mild case of stomach irritation called gastritis. Dogs have no need for chlorophyll. If she's eating a balanced commercial diet and absorbing it Chloe should be getting all the vitamins and minerals and needs. As long as Chloe is eating, drinking and acting normally you could watch her dog now. But if she stops eating, vomits blood or coffee-ground looking material, or seems painful she should get checked out by her veterinarian

Hello, this could be due to a number of issues, including her known heartworm disease if she is symptomatic and it's making her feel unwell. A few common reasons for a young otherwise healthy dog to have a waxing and waning appetite with no other symptoms would be a low grade chronic pancreatitis, mild IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), or a food sensitivity. If you haven't done a complete bloodwork panel with your vet, I suggest starting there. Your vet can discuss a feeding trial with prescription food - I would recommend trying an easily digestible food that's easy on the stomach such as I/D or EN (there are lots of acceptable brands of prescription food, these are just a few common ones), and if that doesn't help then do a trial of a limited ingredient or hydrolyzed diet for food sensitivity. Hello. I would feed Chutki at least a little because an empty stomach can be more apt to continue to cause nausea. Kidney disease can result in nausea, but so can a lot of things. The most reliable way to identify if there is any problem with the kidneys, we would need to do some blood work looking specifically at blood urea nitrogen, creatinine & phosphorous levels. A newer enzyme assay called SDMA has been very helpful in identifying very early cases of kidney failure. Some dogs like to eat grass! As long as they have good appetites (for dog food!) and are not frequent vomiters, there is nothing wrong with eating grass. I do recommend that Chopi is routinely dewormed for common intestinal parasites (often included in monthly heartworm preventatives) and that you do not treat your grass with any chemicals.

This may simply be her preference. If she is maintaining weight and behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern. Eating grass, though, can sometimes indicate an upset stomach. Monitor her for vomiting or diarrhea. If the behavior persists, consider an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose illness of injury.
