Why is my dog eating grass and throwing up? Should I be concerned?

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 17 lbs

My dog has been eating a lot of grass recently. Today she threw up two puddles of vomit with grass in it. Should I be concerned? She's on a high quality diet. (natural balance) Does she need chlorophyll or something?

This could indicate a mild case of stomach irritation called gastritis. Dogs have no need for chlorophyll. If she's eating a balanced commercial diet and absorbing it Chloe should be getting all the vitamins and minerals and needs.
As long as Chloe is eating, drinking and acting normally you could watch her dog now. But if she stops eating, vomits blood or coffee-ground looking material, or seems painful she should get checked out by her veterinarian

It sounds as Chloe is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It could be either - some dogs with gastrointestinal disease will eat grass and the occasional vomiting could be a sign of nausea. It’s also possible that this is simply a preference that Otis has. I would recommend having him examined by a vet to make sure there is no concern for a gastrointestinal problem. They might recommend checking blood work as well.

If this is a new thing then it may be that Izzy does have an upset stomach. If Izzy has always done this I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it is new then I would monitor and if any other symptoms develop bring Izzy to a veterinarian. My dog has eaten grass since puppyhood. Is it normal? Should I worry?

Some dogs like to eat grass! As long as they have good appetites (for dog food!) and are not frequent vomiters, there is nothing wrong with eating grass. I do recommend that Chopi is routinely dewormed for common intestinal parasites (often included in monthly heartworm preventatives) and that you do not treat your grass with any chemicals.

This can be an allergy since she is itching also or they may be unrelated. i would have vet check her since she is vomiting and limit the grass she eats. It's possible that Lola may be having a bid of stomach discomfort. You might consider switching her to a diet formulated for sensitive stomach along with the addition of a multivitamin/probiotic supplement. While the grass itself may not hurt Lola, you'll want to be sure to consider any pest or week control that's been sprayed on the soil for the last year or so as well as any parasites that may be living in the soil.
