Why is my dog obsessed with eating grass? Is it normal behavior?

Given the symptoms described, your dog may have GI distress. If he is behaving normally otherwise, you may be able to [manage him at home](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-treat-your-dogs-upset-stomach). Try withholding food for 12-24 hours. Slowly reintroduce small amounts of water and a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. If there is no improvement, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

If this is a new thing then it may be that Izzy does have an upset stomach. If Izzy has always done this I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it is new then I would monitor and if any other symptoms develop bring Izzy to a veterinarian. Hello, thank you for your question about Kiyah. Often times when dogs eat grass it is because they are feeling nauseous. Nausea can be a sign of GI upset or other underlying GI disease. If Kiyah is otherwise acting ok and has continued to eat and drink normally, you could continue to monitor her. Additionally, you could offer her a bland/easily digestable diet such as boiled chicken/hamburger and white rice to help settle her stomach. If these symptoms continue or Kiyah begins vomiting, refusing food, or becomes lethargic I would recommend having her seen by your veterinarian. They can examine her and discuss the need for additional diagnostics or treatments. Hope this helps!

Grass eating is one of those annoying habits that some dogs just tend to have. The cause of this is not really known, although there are a couple of theories as to the reason. You have already mentioned possible dietary deficiencies (or at least Rino might think he has one) or assistance with digestion. So long as Rino is not eating grass constantly, it is not likely to cause any serious digestive issues. You will likely continue to see occasional diarrhea and/or vomiting. It is preferable that he eats grass over unknown shrubs, as there are many toxic plants that grow in the wild. I would consider adding a probiotic to the diet in an attempt to try and make the stool a little firmer. I usually recommend Fortiflora as a good choice. It is a packet of powder that you sprinkle on the food once a day. Hope this helps work things out.

Some dogs like to eat grass! As long as they have good appetites (for dog food!) and are not frequent vomiters, there is nothing wrong with eating grass. I do recommend that Chopi is routinely dewormed for common intestinal parasites (often included in monthly heartworm preventatives) and that you do not treat your grass with any chemicals.

This may simply be her preference. If she is maintaining weight and behaving normally, there is likely no cause for concern. Eating grass, though, can sometimes indicate an upset stomach. It's quite common for dogs to eat grass on walks - of my three dogs, two of them eat grass every time I take them outside. Although it can be a sign of nausea or GI discomfort in some cases, in many dogs it's perfectly normal behavior that doesn't mean anything is wrong at all.
