My dog won't eat dog food. Can I feed her rice and milk daily?

Hi my Lab is 14 months old is it OK to feed her rice with milk on daily basis as she wont eat pedigree

Rice and milk is not nutritionally balanced for a dog, they require a varied meat based diet. I would recommend trying alternative commercial food which have been fully balanced and slowly mix this with the food she currently likes at about 10% extra per week until at least 80-90% of her diet is dog food

Rice and eggs (eggs must be cooked) is OK for now but as soon as you can please get him on some dog food even if it isn't the best quality. At least it will be balanced nutritionally for dogs. Otherwise, over time, he will develop a nutritional deficiency. I suggest you contact this resource I found in your area for help:

This is perfectly fine to do. I would slowly add more and more kibble crushed up and slowly add more non crushed pieces. When you do this slowly take some chicken and rice out.

If you do it gradually you may have more luck with Jessi eating it. You can also get wet food and see if she would rather that.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bruno is very cute! I think you are saying that Bruno doesn't eat his dog food well but likes milk? Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. Is curd and rice proper food for my 4-month-old Labrador puppy?

No, this is not a proper food at all for a puppy. Puppies require higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than adult dogs, and curd and rice will not provide his nutritional requirements at all. He needs to be on a dry puppy food. I recommend feeding him Royal Canin large breed puppy food.

As you probably realize this is not a balanced diet for a growing puppy. If you haven't already I would recommend trying various canned puppy foods with a little chicken and rice mixed in. If he absolutely won't eat you can talk to your veterinarian about whether or not it is safe for you to leave food out and wait for him to eat when he's hungry - this could take a day or even longer. If you don't mind cooking for him you could also ask your veterinarian for a referral to a nutritionist to help create a recipe for a balanced home cooked diet.

Chicken and rice isn't a balanced diet for Dahlia, and you can't have her on it long term. Keep adding more dog food back in, and as the amount of chicken and rice decreases, she will get hungry enough to eat her dog food again. Best of luck.
