What dry dog food should I feed and is milk safe for my dog?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Browny can eat any dog food diet that is formulated for puppies/growth, and ideally for large-breed dogs. Highly recommended brands include Royal Canin, Purina, and Hills, but other well known companies such as Pedigree are also appropriate. As long as the diet is not vegan, vegetarian or grain free, any puppy dog food diet should be OK. The dog food bag should have a feeding chart on it that outlines how much food Browny should be fed with each meal, based on her weight. I hope this is helpful!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center! In the United States, Pet foods are regulated by a nongovernmental organization called AAFCO. They set standards for what makes a complete pet food. Due to these high standards, most pet foods for sale are adequate to provide complete nutrition for pet dogs. What you want is a food that has an AAFCO statement on the package that the food has been used in FEEDING TRIALS. You will find some food that have a statement that they are FORMULATED to meet requirements. Your family veterinarian may have specific preferences for food types. In general, food made by Hills, Purina, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin will have excellent nutrient profiles for your pet. If your dog has specific medical requirements, your family veterinarian can make recommendations for a prescription food.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! In my honest opinion, I am a big fan of Science Diet and Royal Canin as my go to recommended dog foods. Both brands offer very well balanced diets that have gone through extensive research. My late dog, that was 20 years old, was on science diet his entire life and I contribute part of his longevity to a great diet. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. This means that you will likely get a different answer from each person you ask. My recommendations are to get the best quality dry dog food you can, and feed that. As long as your dog is happy, eating, having normal poops, is a good weight and has a good hair coat, don't worry about other details. Raw meat of any kind is very dangerous and causes severe infections, and bones of any kind (cooked or raw) are very dangerous as well, so I would avoid those. If you would like to feed some meat or vegetables in addition to the dry food you can. Cook the meat as you would for yourself to eat, but without any spices or seasoning (garlic and onions are toxic to dogs), and vegetables like potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, pumpkin, are all good as well (cooked or raw). Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bruno is very cute! I think you are saying that Bruno doesn't eat his dog food well but likes milk? Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant and ingesting milk isn't an appropriate diet for an almost adult lab. Bruno needs to eat a commercial adult dog food. If he doesn't like what you are feeding him: add water or a little canned food with or without water or change brands of food. I am not sure based on your post if his appetite change is a new thing. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center! I personally like the Purina Pro Plan diets as well as the Hill's Science Diet foods as I think they are both palatable and highly nutritious.
