My dog takes cyclosporine for IBD. Can she also take clindamycin?

Yes there are no drug interactions listed between these drugs. Tramadol is an opioid used for mild to moderate pain and Rimadyl is an NSAID, a different class of pain medication which works through reducing inflammation. These two can be given together. Metronidazole and clavamox are two antibiotics which hit different kinds of bacteria, and are usually given together if there is a severe infection .All of these can be given together,

Poor Sonnie! Nearly any antibiotic can cause vomiting and diarrhea as a side effect, so I would not become overly concerned about that point. If Sonnie does develop this, call his vet and offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days to allow his stomach to settle. As for the dosage, clindamycin has a wide dose range when treating abscesses. Sonnie is currently receiving 16 mg/kg, and this range can go up to 33mg/kg. Continue following the prescribed directions and call his vet if anything changes for him. I hope that all goes well!

Metacam is an anti-inflammatory medication, tramadol and gabapentin are pain medications that work in different ways and are often used together, Clavaseptin and metronidazole are antibiotics that both cover different types of bacteria, and Cerenia is an anti-nausea medication that also has some anti-inflammatory effects.

These medications can certainly be given on the same day. No concerns for drug interactions here whatsoever. Please also continue to monitor for any signs of GI upset however from the medications themselves, which includes vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and notify your vet immediately if seen. Only a small percentage of pets will have an adverse reaction to these medications. Both medications should be gien after a small meal. Clindamycin is a very safe antibiotic. Depending on the manufacturer they can have different concentrations. If you could post the number of milligrams per ML listed on the bottle it would help if the dosage is correct. However it does seem like a good dose me. There are no known risk of a pet being on clindamycin prior to anesthesia and in fact it is a very common drug before a dental cleaning is done.

Hello, sorry to hear about Cleo. Clindamycin is an antibiotic and can cause nausea, vomiting, a decreased appetite, and diarrhea. You can contact your veterinarian to inform them about her reaction and they may be able to give her anti-nausea medications to control her signs.
