Is Clindacure safe for my small dog before dental anesthesia?

Poor Sonnie! Nearly any antibiotic can cause vomiting and diarrhea as a side effect, so I would not become overly concerned about that point. If Sonnie does develop this, call his vet and offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days to allow his stomach to settle. As for the dosage, clindamycin has a wide dose range when treating abscesses. Sonnie is currently receiving 16 mg/kg, and this range can go up to 33mg/kg. Continue following the prescribed directions and call his vet if anything changes for him. I hope that all goes well!

Hello, yes that dose of clindamycin is adequate for a 35lb dog. Consult with your veterinaria about a prescription for this medication to treat Jasper's dental infection. The dose for clindamycin is within the normal dose range, and the dose for tramadol is also within the normal dose range. You can ask your vet why they upped the doses for Chewy, but they are safe. I hope this helps.

If it is tooth or periodontal disease related, clindamycin is often used. However, there is a HUGE dose range for this so please talk to your vet about the right dosing and medication - otherwise you'll end up wasting your money for little effect - or causing serious side effects. Of course, if it is tooth or periodontal disease related - the only cure is usually an anesthetized dental cleaning and removal of diseased teeth. Best wishes to you and Monster!

Hi there. It would help to know how much your puppy weighs. But in general, I would not expect to see any serious issues from a one-time dose of clindamycin, even if it's a relatively high dose for her size. You might see some mild GI upset (vomiting or diarrhea) for the next 24 hours or so, but otherwise she should be just fine.

In America you need a prescription for clindamycin. I recommend you have your veterinarian give Tink a prescription for pulsed antibiotics. For dogs with dental disease I recommend giving antibiotics for one week every month on a regular basis. That will help control the plaque and periodontal disease.
