Can my dog take clavamox, tramadol, metronidazole, rimadyl together?

It sounds like quite a serious periodontal issue - I hope he's feeling better soon :( Generally speaking, all of the medications you have listed are safe to be given together - none of them would be expected to have any harmful interactions. Metacam is an anti-inflammatory medication, tramadol and gabapentin are pain medications that work in different ways and are often used together, Clavaseptin and metronidazole are antibiotics that both cover different types of bacteria, and Cerenia is an anti-nausea medication that also has some anti-inflammatory effects.

Tramadol and metacam can be given together. They are 2 different drugs with different mechanisms of action and different side effects. Metacam has a very narrow dose whereas tramadol has a wider, safer dose range. Metacam is an NSAID and can cause a variety of side effects, most notably gi ulceration and kidney injury. Dosing of both should be provided by your vet based on your pets health history and bloodwork. Monitoring of bloodwork is very important with metacam use. Yes, it is safe to give those medications together - and both are necessary if she has a bacterial cause of her cough in addition to a giardia infection. Medication is dosed according to weight, so the amount of medication she is receiving should be appropriate for her size. Hope this helps!

Hello. I would suspect that your vet wanted to start Jake on Clavamox which is a combination of Amoxicillin & Clavulanic acid. This is a very good combination & very broad acting on many types of bacterial infections. Any time we switch a pet from one anti-inflammatory to another, we do want a short wash out period so we do not cause any problems, especially stomach ulcers. I do not know why your vet is switching Jake off the Rimadyl, but there are many other drugs in this class that work very well, too. I wonder if Jake may have some slightly elevated liver values, so switching to Galliprant is often done. This medication is easier on the liver than all other pain meds. They can be given together but I generally recommend giving the tramadol at night, if only given once a day. It is for pain only and can cause drowsiness. That way she will sleep better and be less painful in the morning. If needed tramadol can be given up to four times daily. Check the dose and frequency with your veterinarian to see what they recommend. The Galliprant is an anti inflammatory medication which reduces joint inflammation thereby reducing discomfort. I recommend giving this with a full meal in the morning so she can be active without discomfort during the day. Please make sure she doesn’t gain weight since that can also increase arthritis pain. However, I do not recommend that you administer any medications if they have not been prescribed by a veterinarian as some of these medications can cause side effects and pre-screening bloodwork should be performed. If this was prescribed by your vet , then this is the amount of medicine he needs. Gabapentin may make him a bit drowsy in the beginning, but that should subside after about two weeks. Gabapentin is against nerve pain. Tramadol is an opioid which takes some pain as well and Metacam is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory which takes away inflammation and therefore also pain. These medicines are safe, however watch your dog's poo in the first two weeks. If it is black or tarry then stop the Metacam and inform your vet.
