My dog's on 6 meds for dental issues. Any concerns about interactions?

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 12 years and 10 months old | 16 lbs

My dog has been prescribed 6 medications to treat a periodontal issue. I'd just like a sanity check to be sure there are no concerning indications. Metacam (14 days), Tramadol (14d), Gabapentin (14d), Clavaseptin (14d), Metronidazole (14d), Cerenia (5d)

Poor K! It sounds like quite a serious periodontal issue - I hope he's feeling better soon :(

Generally speaking, all of the medications you have listed are safe to be given together - none of them would be expected to have any harmful interactions. Metacam is an anti-inflammatory medication, tramadol and gabapentin are pain medications that work in different ways and are often used together, Clavaseptin and metronidazole are antibiotics that both cover different types of bacteria, and Cerenia is an anti-nausea medication that also has some anti-inflammatory effects.

    There are no known interactions between these drugs. Please contact K's vet if he develops any side effects (primarily vomiting or diarrhea) while taking these medications. I hope that his periodontal issue resolves quickly!

Can my older dog safely take Gabapentin, Tramadol, Metacam daily?
If this was prescribed by your vet , then this is the amount of medicine he needs. Gabapentin may make him a bit drowsy in the beginning, but that should subside after about two weeks. Gabapentin is against nerve pain. Tramadol is an opioid which takes some pain as well and Metacam is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory which takes away inflammation and therefore also pain. These medicines are safe, however watch your dog's poo in the first two weeks. If it is black or tarry then stop the Metacam and inform your vet.

My dog took meloxicam, ketoconazole, Cerenia. Is this drug mix safe?
These drugs, if given at appropriate dosages, should not interact. I guess cerenia was given for vomiting, so meloxicam is not indicated though. Why did you ketoconazole? It is not indicated in pancreatitis cases.

Can I give my dog Metacam and Tramadol at the same time safely?
Tramadol and metacam can be given together. They are 2 different drugs with different mechanisms of action and different side effects. Metacam has a very narrow dose whereas tramadol has a wider, safer dose range. Metacam is an NSAID and can cause a variety of side effects, most notably gi ulceration and kidney injury. Dosing of both should be provided by your vet based on your pets health history and bloodwork. Monitoring of bloodwork is very important with metacam use. Can I give my senior dog diazepam with tramadol, metacam, gabapentin?
I doubt diazepam would make much difference as he is already on a lot of meds. My concern would be for his liver trying to metabolise so many drugs. He could also become heavily sedated with this combination. If he is very sore i would try calling your vet to see if you could increase the does of his meds.

Yes, it is safe to give those medications together - and both are necessary if she has a bacterial cause of her cough in addition to a giardia infection. Medication is dosed according to weight, so the amount of medication she is receiving should be appropriate for her size. Hope this helps!

What's the best order to give my dog multiple meds? Side effects?
The order should be as followed: Cerenia first thing in the morning, one hour later Omeprazol and Sucralfate, then half an hour later Metronidazole (with food). If he does not throw up and his appetite is fine then there is nothing to worry about.
