Why does my dog have accidents in his crate after going outside?

It's possible Kiara may not be getting enough time outside to go potty. Even if she goes once and then comes back in, her bladder may not be completely empty. Keeping her outside and letting her go 2-3 times before bringing her back in may help. Other options include keeping her in a gated off area until she is potty trained/proves she isn't going to have an accident, using an enzymatic cleaner on any areas she has an accident to discourage her from going there again, or even using the tether method of attaching her to you by a leash so you can catch her before she has an accident may help. Speaking with a trainer in person, especially if she is terrified of her crate is also a good idea. Four months is a very young age still and one where I wouldn't expect Fendi to be completely potty trained. That said, she should still be able to hold it about an hour or two, and if she can't, then scheduling a vet visit to make sure there isn't a health issue related first is a good idea. If she checks out healthy, sticking to a strict potty training routine is best. This means going out every 1-2 hours, after waking, eating, drinking, playing, etc to give her opportunities to go outside. If she is pottying in her kennel, it may be too big for her (it should be just big enough to comfortably lay down and turn around in, but not so big she can potty on one side and lay on the other.) Blocking off the house so she has limited access and limited chance to have an accident can also help. It seems she might need a small kennel. There should only be enough room for her to stand up and turn a complete circle. Any other room then they tend to soil in one area and lay in another so they do not get dirty. Puppies tend to get distracted easily and may find playing and exploring outside more important than going to the bathroom. I would start taking her out on leash and staying close by you reward her with treats as she goes in the correct place.

I commonly see puppies learning quickly and not having accidents get to this age and just forget everything they have learned. As long as there is no medical problem, I would go back to the basics- stay on a schedule, lots of trips outside to prevent an accident, lots of praise when he goes outside. If Jewel is urinating in the house I would recommend bringing her into a veterinarian and have them check a urine sample on her. She may have a urinary tract infection. If she is defecating in the house and it is normal this can be behavioral and I would consider checking a stool sample and crating her until she goes outside again. If it is diarrhea then I would recommend checking a stool sample, putting her on a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and if it doesn't resolve discussed probiotics and medication with your veterinarian. Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not that uncommon. Sometimes dogs do this as part of letting us know that they are unhappy with whatever their situation is at that time. For example, my own dog will do that if I walk my other dog outside first for whatever reason. It is important to recognize the triggers and avoid them. In this case, if may be leaving him in the kennel while you are not around. I recommend that you take Timber outside before to urinate before you leave and to actually try him out of his kennel. Try to not leave for too long at the beginning and increase the amount of time you are not around slowly. Everytime he does not urinate anywhere, make sure to praise him and reward him with treats when you get home. In no time he is likely to understand that he will be rewarded if he does not do that undesired behavior. The key is going to be to proceed slowly. For example, leave him alone only for 1-2 hours first, and then increase the amount of time slowly until you reach that amount of time you actually need. Good luck!
