My dog suddenly collapsed, twitched, and foamed. Was it a seizure?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 18 lbs

What just happenes to my dog? I started playing with him and after about 5 minutes, his eye starts twitching, his back right leg starts kicking, he fell to the ground, tensed up while wriggling around and began foamimg at the mouth. The whole episode lasted about 1-2 minutes.

It sounds like poor Yoshi had a seizure. That could be caused by toxins, liver disease, kidney failure, brain trauma, or brain tumors (unlikely in a young dog) among others. I would have Yoshi seen by a vet for this, who can diagnose what caused the seizure and can treat him for it. If Yoshi seizures again before you can seek vet care:
- Don't put your hands near his mouth
- Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling
- Monitor Yoshi at all times during the seizure to ensure that he cannot hurt himself by crashing into furniture, etc
- If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately

I am very sorry to hear about Clouds. I would definitely recommend a visit to your vet for an exam and bloodwork. It sounds as though this could be a seizure, and if they are occurring this frequently he needs treatment. The vet will do an exam and discuss the episodes with you and decide if they feel seizures were taking place (take a video if you see this happen again), and they will want to do bloodwork to rule out some possible causes of seizure such as liver disease or infection, and can discuss starting medication to help stop these episodes.

From your description, it does sound like Omega has had a seizure. I would have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning for this. My dog sneezed, then collapsed and twitched. Is this an emergency?

I'm sorry to hear Joe is having an issue! Certainly must have been scary for you and him! It's impossible to say what caused this in Joe, but I'm concerned that this could have been a seizure. I'd strongly recommend taking Joe to see a veterinarian right away as seizures can be caused by a number of things including toxin exposure. It could have also been due to a respiratory or heart issue. Either cause is serious and requires emergency veterinary attention. Hello, sorry to hear about Fuzzy. It sounds like she may have had a seizure and may be continuing to have mild forms of seizures. If Fuzzy continues to have these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian as she may need to have medications and diagnostics to determine why she is suddenly having these events. It sounds suspicious for a seizure . Kayla could have a seizure for a few reasons. The most common is epilepsy but toxins, liver disease or brain tumors can also cause seizures. I would recommend to take him into the vet asap for a neurologic exam and bloodwork. This will help to narrow down what caused this. Keep him quiet until his visit and encourage him to drink water. My healthy young dog had a seizure for the first time. What caused it?

There could be many causes for seizures in a young healthy dog. He could have gotten into a toxin, he could have epilepsy or something else. I would recommend a veterinarian tomorrow to have blood work and a physical examination performed. I would also consider a neurologist to follow up so they can help with a diagnosis. If he does have a seizure of that duration he should be taken to a veterinarian since seizures can have serious effects on a patient.
