My dog collapses and pees when I let him out. Is it a seizure?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 36 lbs

My 11 year old, 36lb puggle (1/2 pug 1/2 beagle) is fine until I let him out to pee when I get home from work. When I let him out he collapsed, almost like a seizure where is front and back legs went out from under him and he fell on his side and pees. After he's done peeing he gets up like everything is fine. This didn't happen when he went out in the morning and that is the same amount of time. What is going on, I'm scared.

It sounds suspicious for a seizure . Kayla could have a seizure for a few reasons. The most common is epilepsy but toxins, liver disease or brain tumors can also cause seizures. I would recommend to take him into the vet asap for a neurologic exam and bloodwork. This will help to narrow down what caused this. Keep him quiet until his visit and encourage him to drink water. Yes, your description does make sense. It could be that this is a sign of another seizure, as dogs can lose their bladder control while having a seizure. I would monitor Chaos for now, and then take him into the vet first thing in the morning. If he's continuing to have seizures, he may need medication to prevent them, and the vet can discuss treating her. In the meantime, if Chaos seizures again before you can seek vet care:
- Don't put your hands near his mouth
- Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling
- Monitor Chaos at all times during the seizure to ensure that he cannot hurt himself by crashing into furniture, etc
- If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately

My dog is dazed, stumbling, and peeing after waking. Is it seizures?

It's a bit hard to say, but this sounds like seizure activity, especially with the periods of confusion you're describing after the episodes occur. In a 4 year old dog I'd be concerned about epilepsy, although other possibilities such as a poisoning and brain tumors should be considered as well. Roscoe needs to see his vet ASAP in order to find out what is going on, and start treatment. If these are seizures, the longer they go undiagnosed and uncontrolled, the more likely he will have one that he won't come out of. Get him seen ASAP.

That is very concerning and I would be worried about a neurologic issue such as seizure, or a functional nerve/muscle issue. If this has happened multiple times it would be best to bring Jack into your vet for a thorough senior wellness exam and testing such as bloodwork to rule out serious issues.

Urinating in an episode like you are describing is usually caused either by a seizure, which often occurs at night, or by a 'syncopal' or fainting episode from heart disease. There are other causes as well however these would be the two that I would be most concerned about. With it being at night, a seizure is more likely, as fainting from heart disease usually occurs when they get excited and are more active. The reason they pee themselves in these episodes is because they lose consciousness. I would recommend having Riley seen by your vet. They will listen to his heart as well as maybe check some bloodwork and maybe check his urine. Best of luck with Riley.

It sounds like Ingmar could have a serious health issue related to heart disease, seizures, or toxin exposure. I strongly recommend you have him examined by a veterinarian right away as some of these issues can be life threatening. Your veterinarian can assess Ingmar for a heart murmur and take X-rays to determine if emergency heart medication is needed. If seizures are suspected, then medication may be needed to prevent them in the future. Blood work should also be done to ensure no organ issues are present.
