My dog has Coccidia, on Albon, and won't eat. When will he eat again?

As long as Bobo is eating and drinking, playful, and overall acting normal, I wouldn't be worried at all :) Coccidia can take a while to clear up in some cases, up to 10-14 days after starting Albon. The Flagyl should also help, but it often takes at least 48 hours to begin having any effect. So as long as your puppy is acting fine, I would just continue the medication as directed for the full course of treatment. If his stool is still runny once he has completed all of his medication, take him back to your vet for a recheck. If he still has coccidia at that point, he may need treatment with a different drug such as ponazuril to clear the infection.

If your dog is not having diarrhea, then I would consider her a subclinical carrier. I would recommend treating her, however, as she is young with an inadequate immune system. Additionally, she can spread it to other dogs via her feces. The treatment is quite easy; a 5 day course of Albon. The dogs usually like the taste of it, and it is once a day only.

I understand that it can be concerning when our four-legged friends' bowel habits change, but it is not concerning for a 3 month old puppy to go a day without pooping. If Marilyn had diarrhea prior to being diagnosed with coccidia, it would not be uncommon to go several days without a bowel movement. I can understand the concern that she may go in her crate, but if her crate is sized correctly (large enough to comfortably stand, turn around, and lay down, but without extra room), it is unlikely that she would go in there. Since she seems comfortable, playful, and is eating normally, there is likely no reason for concern. However, if she seems to be straining to poop unproductively, whining, stops eating, or becomes lethargic, Marilyn should go back to her vet for further evaluation. At this point, just keep taking her outside frequently, but don't stress if she doesn't go today! There isn't anything that will effectively make her go at home aside from frequent trips outside. If a fecal test was not performed, then one should definitely be done to see if there even is an intestinal parasite responsible for the diarrhea. There are many other intestinal parasites that can cause diarrhea and Albon does not treat them all. I would recommend having a fecal sample from Koda tested to see what the possible causes of the diarrhea. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Yes, they can be taken together, but because Bayer Expert Care is available without a prescription, the strength of the praziquantal will not be a strong as found in Drontal (which can only be given by prescription from the vet), and you may not get as good results. I would recommend taking Josie into the vet for an exam to get Drontal, it is an extremely effective and safe deworming treatment.

Your pup sure is adorable! His belly is most likely bloated because of the intestinal parasites and should go down over the next week. I would make sure he is also being dewormed for more routine intestinal parasites (like roundworms and hookworms) to make sure he is covered. You may notice some softer stool during this time but vomiting and diarrhea should not occur and you should contact your vet if you notice this. I hope this helps.
