Seeing clear mucus on my dog's genitals after bathroom. Is it normal?

Mucous could be a sign of a urinary tract infection if accompanied by frequent urination or blood in the urine. It can also be seen with vaginitis. A small amount of mucous can be normal for some dogs. If you're only seeing mucous and Zelda is not excessively licking her vulva you can probably monitor for a few days but if the mucous continues I'd recommend having your vet examine her.

This could be normal vulvar discharge, but sometimes mucus and cloudy urine can also be seen with a urinary tract infection. If you continue to see mucus, or if Bailey is straining to urinate, urinating more frequently or having accidents in the house I'd recommend seeing your vet for a urine check.

Hello. It is possible that you saw a bit of mucous at the end of her urination. This could be very normal or could be an indication of a bit of irritation either in the vaginal area or the urinary bladder. If it persists or you see any other indications of abnormalities in her urine, please talk to your veterinarian. Bambi may need a urinalysis to see if there are any abnormal cells present. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What you are seeing is likely mucous. It could be a urinary tract infection of puppy vaginitis. They tend to grow out of puppy vaginitis. Sometimes they need antibiotics if they are urinating small amounts frequently. I would set up an appointment with your Vet for an exam. I would try to collect a urine sample for the appointment. First wipe the vulva with a baby wipe or a slightly soapy towel (rinse) before collecting. I hope this helps!

In a young dog, it could be parasites, something odd he ate, or it indicates a sensitivity to something like an allergen. If he is feeling well, eating normally, then I would not be too concerned. If he has not had a stool check done, I would definitely have it evaluated by your veterinarian. He may need to have his diet changed, but I would not just start buying different puppy foods. If you notice her straining to urinate/unable to produce urine, this is a medical emergency and she should be seen by a vet immediately.

Mucus is not a common finding in urine, so I'm not quite sure what you're seeing. I'd recommend collecting a sample by sticking a Tupperware under her while she's peeing (or a soup ladle also works great) and taking both Sophie and the urine to her vet for a check up.
