What causes my female dog to have mucus after she finishes peeing?

If she continues this behavior, she will need to see a veterinarian to see if she has a urinary tract infection. It is a more likely condition in a female pup given their anatomy. They tend to grow out of puppy vaginitis. Sometimes they need antibiotics if they are urinating small amounts frequently. I would set up an appointment with your Vet for an exam. I would try to collect a urine sample for the appointment. First wipe the vulva with a baby wipe or a slightly soapy towel (rinse) before collecting. I hope this helps!

This could be normal vulvar discharge, but sometimes mucus and cloudy urine can also be seen with a urinary tract infection. If you continue to see mucus, or if Bailey is straining to urinate, urinating more frequently or having accidents in the house I'd recommend seeing your vet for a urine check.

It is possible she is having some mild vaginal discharge which could be being expressed when she urinates. If she seems to be exhibiting any difficulty urinating (straining, taking longer to urinate than normal, or going more frequently in smaller amounts), I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian, as this could indicate something like a urinary tract infection. Your veterinarian will want to perform a full physical exam and also examine a urine sample for evidence of infection. If she does have a urinary tract infection, these are often uncomplicated and treated successfully with antibiotics, as long as she is otherwise healthy without any underlying systemic disease. It could be either discharge from urinary tract or from the rectum. Vaginal infection / inflammation or bladder infection can result in small amount of mucus in the urine. Stools with small amount of mucus is also not uncommon in dogs with mild gastroenteritis. As long as Tinkerbell is bright, alert, has good appetite and normal energy level, keep an eye on her at home. If you notice that she is passing more mucus either during defecation or urination, post another question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach or get in touch with your local vets.

Mucus is not a common finding in urine, so I'm not quite sure what you're seeing. I'd recommend collecting a sample by sticking a Tupperware under her while she's peeing (or a soup ladle also works great) and taking both Sophie and the urine to her vet for a check up.
