Dog dribbling brown blood after C-section/spay. Is this normal?

This is most likely. If she had started her heat cycle before her spay, you could also see residual blood. Rarely, a bleeding disorder could be present or a complication from the surgery. You should call the vet and give him/her an update so they know what is going on with your dog. Your vet may want to see her or just ask you to bring in a urine sample to check for an infection. If she has a urinary tract infection, your vet may prescribe an antibiotic, unless she is already on an antibiotic post-spay.

It is not normal for blood to be present in a dog's urine, although it is possible to get a false positive on a urine dipstick. I would recommend having a veterinarian perform a microscopic examination of a urine sample. A urinary tract infection would be the most common cause of blood in the urine of a young dog.

Sometimes they will have discolored urine if there is still a little blood stuck in the vulva from the surgery or if they didn't drink much water yesterday. I would watch her closely and make sure she is getting plenty of water. If the urine continues to stay dark or if she isn't feeling well in any other way, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she hasn't developed an urinary tract infection. If she has bladder stones, she needs to have them removed because they will irritate the lining of the bladder causing bleeding and other complications. Once the stones are removed, they can have them tested to determine what kind of stones they are and can put Puffy on a special diet to help prevent them from forming again. I would also recommend having her spayed at the same time to prevent a life-threatening infection that can occur within the uterus causing her to need emergency surgery. There is a chance the blood in the urine is coming from her uterus but if a vet saw stones in the bladder, that is more likely. Good luck and kisses to Puffy!
