My dog has blood in her pee after spay. Is it a UTI or surgery?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | spayed | 6 months and 18 days old | 33 lbs

My 6 month old labradoodle was spayed 9 days ago. Yesterday I noticed traces of blood in her urine. Is this an after effect of the surgery or a possible UTI? The first time I noticed there was a lot of blood. Since it has been small traces.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Brooke. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. A urinalysis will be performed to look for evidence of a urinary tract infection. This is most likely. If she had started her heat cycle before her spay, you could also see residual blood. Rarely, a bleeding disorder could be present or a complication from the surgery. I hope this information helps!
