My dog is peeing blood days after spay surgery. Should I call the vet?

My dog had a spay surgery 5 days ago. Now there is a few spots of blood in urine. Do I need to take her back to vet

You should call the vet and give him/her an update so they know what is going on with your dog. Your vet may want to see her or just ask you to bring in a urine sample to check for an infection. If she has a urinary tract infection, your vet may prescribe an antibiotic, unless she is already on an antibiotic post-spay.

This is not normal, and I would take Pepper back into a vet immediately. This blood in the urine could be due a concurrent UTI, and she would need antibiotics to treat this. Using a physical exam, routine blood tests, and a urinalysis, the vet can confirm the presence of a UTI, and can prescribe the needed medication to treat it.

Yes, that is concerning. It could be Luna has a UTI or bladder stones causing the blood in her urine. If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until tomorrow morning to see a vet. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. Best of luck.

My dog is peeing brown after spay yesterday. Should I be concerned?

Sometimes they will have discolored urine if there is still a little blood stuck in the vulva from the surgery or if they didn't drink much water yesterday. I would watch her closely and make sure she is getting plenty of water. If the urine continues to stay dark or if she isn't feeling well in any other way, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she hasn't developed an urinary tract infection. If Lily is peeing blood, I would be concerned that she has a UTI, bladder stones, or even bladder cancer. Unfortunately there is nothing you can give her at home, she has to see a vet for this problem. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. In this case, please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My cat is peeing blood after spay surgery. Is this normal or serious?

There is a chance that there was some trauma to the bladder area while removing the uterus which is located just above the cervix. Some light bleeding can be expected to occur for 1-3 days after surgery but copious amounts of blood or prolonged bleeding should be considered abnormal. I would recommend either taking your cat back to the previous veterinarian, since he/she did the surgery, for a follow-up visit for further care. Or if the trust has been broken with this vet, you can get kitty seen with another expert for an exam and potential urinalysis to ensure there isn't a UTI present that could explain the symptoms that mentioned. As long as there is an active flow of urine and no outward signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, bloated abdomen) then this sounds like a relatively non-emergency type situation that can be hopefully be resolved with medical treatment, if any.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your Piper. The blood could be coming from her bladder or what is left of her reproductive tract. If she was spayed at the time of surgery, it seems like the bleeding would have resolved by now. She could have acquired a urinary tract infection though. I would contact her veterinarian to see if a urine sample needs to be tested. Most of the time a small needle will be used to collect the sample directly from the bladder.
