My dog took Bravecto last month, Simparica this month. Is she okay?

Simparica ( Solaner), is a monthly flea & tick product that is extremely safe. Please ignore all those unsubstantiated remarks online. No product that is known to cause death or seizures would be allowed to be sold for very long. I would definitely continue its use if this is what your veterinarian recommended. According to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

Hello, and thank you for your question. Bravecto and Simparica are very similar. They are both effective oral tick and flea preventatives. The main difference is that a single Bravecto chew lasts for 3 months of protection, while Simparica lasts for 1 month at a time. I hope this helps, and that Lolita is healthy!

I think both are good products with few side effects. The topical medications do sometimes cause some irritation to the skin, even if it doesn’t seem red, but it typically does not last long. Oral preventatives in he same class as Simparica can cause gastrointestinal signs and lethargy. You could try a different oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto - some do better with one over the other. I wouldn’t worry about the smell from the Vectra.

Simparica is a once a month flea and tick preventive medication and giving it daily will soon overdose your dog and possibly cause severe health problems and death. So please, give Simparica only as instructed on the label. A one time application will likely be enough to kill the mange. If not, ask your vet to prescribe Bravecto (one-time application) for your dog. You can give Omega 3 fatty acids daily.

Simparica has a wide margin of safety, but Abby ingested 4 times her normal dose. You may see tremors or convulsions within the next 24 hours. These symptoms are typically self limiting and, in safety studies, resolved without treatment. Ideally, she should be examined at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection followed by administration of activated charcoal to further reduce absorption. This is most effective when done within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no antidote for sarolaner (the active ingredient in Simparica) overdose, so treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic until recovery is complete.
