My dog has side effects from Simparica & Vectra 3D. Are they safe?

Simparica ( Solaner), is a monthly flea & tick product that is extremely safe. Please ignore all those unsubstantiated remarks online. No product that is known to cause death or seizures would be allowed to be sold for very long. I would definitely continue its use if this is what your veterinarian recommended. Hello. All tick and flea products if overdosed or if the individual animal has a sensitivity can cause seizures as the drugs typically work on the nervouse system of the insects. Check with your vet about which products in your area are safe and effective. Avoid cheap products because amounts of drug aren't regulated and we often see advrse side effects with the grocery store products (or dollar store products). Also, always give as directed and don't overdose or give a different animal meds meant for your animal or vice versa. Overall zoetis products like nexguard and bravecto are good and this looks like their new product.

Parker should be fine. Both Bravecto and Simparica are similar types of medication, but they are tested before being sold at multiple times the regular dose and have minimal side effects. She definitely shouldn't have fleas now!

You have a few options. If you want an all in one product, try Trifexis. Otherwise you will two separate products. You might try Simparica (fleas/ticks) and Interceptor (heartworm/intestinal worms). I also recommend to have Sparky's stool checked for worms in case that was a round worm. For that parasite, pets are often given bolus dewormings since people can get that worm. That will clear up the infection faster.

It is ok to give trifexis and simparica together (staggered by 2 weeks is great). Both of those medications will protect against fleas so there is some overlap with that. If you want to streamline how many medications you are giving Dakota monthly, Another option would be to use sentinel or interceptor instead of the trifexis and give with that with simparica monthly. These products contain the same heart worm preventative (milbemycin) as trifexis but do not contain any medication to kill adult fleas. (Trifexis contains both the milbemycin for heart worm prevention and Spinosad for fleas). That way you would be giving one medication for heart worm prevention (sentinel or interceptor ) and one for flea and tick prevention (simparica). Another option is to continue trifexis and add in a tick collar (such as the preventic collar or the seresto collar). I know there are so many products and options it is confusing !
