Why is my 7-year-old Rottweiler limping and refusing to walk?

It's hard for me to say what could be going on without examining Oskar and seeing the x-rays. My concern in a Rottweiler that has persistent limping despite anti-inflammatories would be osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. I would recommend discussing additional diagnostics with your vet, including repeat x-rays, and possibly a biopsy or CT scan.

It sounds like the leg may be pretty painful if he's limping and won't bear weight on it (or let you touch it). Possible causes can include anything from a soft tissue or bone injury (such as a sprain or break), something stuck in the foot or between the toes, tumors or growths affecting the bones or joints, or even a nerve issue causing the leg to not work properly. I would have Rambo examined by your vet ASAP, especially if he is very painful and can't walk on the leg.

It's difficult to say exactly what's going on without examining him, but it could be due to a couple different things: 1) Arthritis - we usually see this in older dogs, but he may have had some growth abnormalities that caused him to get arthritis early. The best thing you can do for this is make sure he stays thin. A fat dog will be more prone to problems. This can cause them to not walk properly and lay around more than normal. This would have to be diagnosed by a veterinarian and require more specific treatment. Either way, I think it's best to have a vet doctor do an evaluation of Duke to see what the problem may be. They can also advise on the best treatment for the problem. I hope that helps.

It certainly could be a fracture and yes surgery is the only option for cure of her limping. However arthritis will still persist so long to her management of that will still be needed. However given Athena's age and breed I would be very concerned about a possible neoplastic/cancerous process. It is much less common in the elbow but I would discuss this with your veterinarian prior to surgery.

Limping can be due to many reasons that go from relatively uncomplicated such as soft tissue injuries and osteoarthritis to more complicated and serious injuries such as fractures and even bone tumors. I highly recommend that you have Roxy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to localize her pain and decide what the next diagnostic step which will likely be radiographs. At the very least, they can start her on pain control medications. Without being able to do a physical exam on Gypsy Rose, it is a little difficult for me to tell you what exactly is going on with her wrist. If it is very hard, then that could indicate that a small fracture did not heal properly, that her body is continuing to try to heal something in that area, or that there is bone cancer present. If it is soft, that could indicate a seroma (small pocket of fluid) or ongoing inflammation. Hygromas do not typically form in this area, but that is another possibility that would not necessarily turn into cancer. I would recommend that Gypsy Rose go back to the vet for additional x-rays. Rottweilers are prone to developing bone cancer, and I would want to make sure we caught it as early as possible. She may also benefit from anti-inflammatory medications

Hello, sorry to hear about Baloo. His elbows definitely show signs of arthritis. Elbow arthritis is common in Rottweilers has 3 components to it. 2 of these components, a fragments coranoid process and an ununited anconeal process can cause moderate to severe pain. The therapy for this disease includes surgery to remove the chipped bone fragments in the joint. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon regarding Baloos elbow disease so that his problem can be addressed. In the mean time, you can ask your veterinarian for additional pain meds to try and help keep Baloo as comfortable as possible. Hope this helps and best of luck
