My dog ate a chip bag. Is it dangerous if she swallowed the plastic?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 18 days old | 4.409 lbs

My dog was caught ripping up a Smith's potato chips bag. Will she be alright? I'm worried she may have swallowed some of it.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

The chips themselves won't hurt her. It would depends on how big the pieces of the bag were that she could have swallowed. If you can barely tell if pieces of the bag are missing then I am sure she will be fine. Watch for vomit, lethargy, not eating and belly pain as signs of a blockage.

I wish Zoey the best!
