My dog ate chicken with garlic & onion powder. Should I call the vet?

Dog ate fried chicken tender with very thick coating ingredients say garlic powder and onion powder. Should I go to ER? My dog is 55 pounds approximately and 5 years old

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is unlikely to be an issue in terms of the garlic and onion powder as it was just a bit. This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea. If these are observed, have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian. Best of luck!

Garlic powder could be extremely toxic especially if combined with onion powder which is toxic as well.
Signs can start with gastrointestinal diarrhoea and vomiting but develop in more severe ones like anemia.
A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm/rule out these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

My dog ate chicken broth with a little onion powder. Is she safe?

You're correct in that both onions and garlic are toxic to dogs, but I wouldn't worry at all about the negligible amount that your dog is getting. At 50 pounds, she would need to eat about 4 teaspoons of onion powder in order to experience the blood cell changes associated with onion toxicosis. I can't imagine that that much onion powder would be in a quart or so of the broth, let alone 1/4 cup. With that said, I generally err on the side of caution and prefer avoiding feeding both onions and garlic whenever possible. Onion toxicosis is consistently noted in animals that ingest more than 0.5% of their body weight in onions at one time. Garlic is 5 times more powerful than the onion. Considering the fact that the quantity is unknown I think the best course of action would be to take Taquito to your veterinarian to make him sick and give medication to reduce absorption of the toxics. Hello, onion toxicity can cause anemia in both pets and humans. They need to consume a large amount of onion to have evidence of anemia. More likely, pets may develop GI signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a decreased appetite. The amount of onion powder in the sauce is likely not enough to cause any severe side effects to Par. You can be more certain about this by calling the Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 and giving them the information about the ingredients and the quantity Par ingested.
