My dog ate Flex 2500 chews and is vomiting. Should I go to the ER vet?

I do not recommend inducing vomiting since giving hydrogen peroxide can cause esophageal irritation. Glycosamine is very safe so they should be fine. I would monitor them closely. They may vomit on their own, have diarrhea or be fine with no issues. Dogs are natural scavengers so they often are fine eating things they shouldn't and in large quantities. If they start acting lethargic or ill then I would certainly take them in for an exam and treatment. They may give fluids or activated charcoal to absorb the glycosamine. If Ace is unable to move because his back legs are paralyzed, you need to take him to an emergency clinic. This may not be related to the overdose of the glucosamine pills, and he needs a full neurologic exam and spinal/hip radiographs. If he is still nauseated from the overdose, he may need to be on anti-nausea meds and hospitalized with IV fluid support.

Hello. I am more concerned about the glucosamine content of these chews. Very large doses have been associated with acute liver injury, so if Layla ingested the chews in the past 2 hours, you should get her to an emergency vet for decontamination & possibly started on IV fluids to minimize possible damage. If the chews were ingested more than 2 hours ago, you should still see a veterinarian where activated charcoal may be administered to try & minimize absorption of the glucosamine & to have her liver values monitored over the next few days. Oh dear! This is a pretty significant overdose, and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like Previcox have a fairly narrow margin of safety in dogs. Overdoses like this can result in severe stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, or even kidney failure. Since she got such a large dose, I would really recommend taking her to the vet right away for treatment. He/she can give her an injection to induce vomiting to help get any remaining pills out of her stomach before they can be absorbed, and may also recommend giving her IV fluids and starting medication to help protect her stomach to try and prevent any problems.

Hello, the calcium content in that chew should be well tolerated by Thunder. The magnesium content may cause GI signs such as constipation, loose stools, or even diarrhea. If you are near a veterinarian, you may have them induce vomiting and measure his calcium and magnesium levels with bloodwork. Alternatively, you can monitor at home for any evidence of increased drinking, increased urinations, loose stools, or diarrhea and contact your veterinarian immediately if you note any. Simba may develop some stomach upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea). You may be able to manage it at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, persistent vomiting or diarrhea and abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.
