My cat ate dog glucosamine chews. Will he be okay after eating them?

At worst, you may see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. If necessary, you can fast him for 12 hours then feed a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. If symptoms persist or worsen, have him seen by your vet.

I do not recommend inducing vomiting since giving hydrogen peroxide can cause esophageal irritation. Glycosamine is very safe so they should be fine. I would monitor them closely. They may vomit on their own, have diarrhea or be fine with no issues. Dogs are natural scavengers so they often are fine eating things they shouldn't and in large quantities. If they start acting lethargic or ill then I would certainly take them in for an exam and treatment. They may give fluids or activated charcoal to absorb the glycosamine. If Ace is unable to move because his back legs are paralyzed, you need to take him to an emergency clinic. This may not be related to the overdose of the glucosamine pills, and he needs a full neurologic exam and spinal/hip radiographs. If he is still nauseated from the overdose, he may need to be on anti-nausea meds and hospitalized with IV fluid support.

Fortunately, there is usually nothing overtly toxic with overdosing on a joint supplement, & if Louis is doing well at this time, he should continue to do so. He may experience some gastric upset, so diarrhea is still a possibility. I do want you to always be on the lookout for additional stomach problems such as vomiting, gagging/retching, bloating or perceived abdominal pain. Oh no, how naughty of Bentley! While not overly common, it has been shown that overdoses of joint supplements can lead to liver damage. Unfortunately, there is not much information known about the specific dose of glucosamine that can lead to this liver insult. For this reason, I do recommend taking Bentley to an emergency vet fairly urgently. They will be able to check his current blood chemistry to check his liver values and will likely recommend hospitalization for monitoring, IV fluids, and liver support medications.
