My dog ate glucosamine, now can't walk and won't eat. What to do?

Oh no, how naughty of Bentley! While not overly common, it has been shown that overdoses of joint supplements can lead to liver damage. Unfortunately, there is not much information known about the specific dose of glucosamine that can lead to this liver insult. For this reason, I do recommend taking Bentley to an emergency vet fairly urgently. They will be able to check his current blood chemistry to check his liver values and will likely recommend hospitalization for monitoring, IV fluids, and liver support medications. I do not recommend inducing vomiting since giving hydrogen peroxide can cause esophageal irritation. Glycosamine is very safe so they should be fine. I would monitor them closely. They may vomit on their own, have diarrhea or be fine with no issues. Dogs are natural scavengers so they often are fine eating things they shouldn't and in large quantities. If they start acting lethargic or ill then I would certainly take them in for an exam and treatment. They may give fluids or activated charcoal to absorb the glycosamine. Simba may develop some stomach upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea). You may be able to manage it at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, persistent vomiting or diarrhea and abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

If Snoopy isn't able to walk, that's a medical emergency. It sounds like he is in a lot of pain. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, as many human ones are toxic and can be fatal if given. I would take him into a vet now to get this treated.

Fortunately, there is usually nothing overtly toxic with overdosing on a joint supplement, & if Louis is doing well at this time, he should continue to do so. He may experience some gastric upset, so diarrhea is still a possibility. I do want you to always be on the lookout for additional stomach problems such as vomiting, gagging/retching, bloating or perceived abdominal pain. it sounds like she either hurt one of her front legs (and by lowering her head it puts less weight and pressure on the affected leg) or she has a slipped disk injury (cervical slipped disks can affect the head and the limbs at once). If you can't take her to an emergency center or out of hours services let her rest and minimize her movement as much as you can until you can get her to your vet.
