Can I add cooked chicken, sweet potato, and rice to my dog's kibble?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. In terms of diet, a well balanced kibble is best as it will have all of the nutrients needed for a dog. If you need to make a home cooked diet, boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts with boiled rice along with added cooked vegetables is a good idea (pumpkin, carrots, broccoli, etc.). You can add in vegetables to make it more balanced. Avoid raw food and bones as they cause many dietary issues. Also, avoid onions, garlic, chocolate, grapes and raisins because these are very toxic to dogs. Best of luck with Jessi!

If the majority of your pups diet is a good quality puppy food ( at least 80% ), then you can supplement with the sweet potatoes, vegetables (?), & only a very small amount of pumpkin. Pumpkin has a lot of fiber, so restrict this so as not to cause a loose stool. Also, make sure it is canned, or cooked pumpkin, & not pumpkin pie filling. Take care.

All of these ingredients are safe for your dogs, but they are likely not "completely and balanced" and may not meet all of the nutritional needs of your dogs, especially the growing pups. I recommend feeding a high quality dog food, such as Purina, Science Diet, Hills, or Royal Canin. I would not add chicken soup to her food as there is a lot of salt in the broth. You can add canned dog food to her diet for variety. I recommend using the same brand as the dry dog food you are feeding. Safe human foods are boiled chicken and boiled beef but canned dog food has the proper balance of vitamins and minerals. Hello there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Pedigree is not the most premium food but it is not the worst. I have seen many dogs thrive on it. I really don't think you need to add in the other items but as long as she is not overweight I do not see the harm in it since it is only 5% of the meal. You didn't mention if you are giving her the chicken bone - if you are, I don't recommend you do this. Just give the meat only. It sounds like you are doing just fine. Just monitor her weight.
