Can my young puppies safely eat sweet potatoes and pumpkin as treats?

Hello. I do not think there is anything that gives us more pleasure than cooking something special for our pets. There is absolutely nothing wrong with adding a little chicken, brown rice & sweet potatoes or pumpkin to her kibble, as long as the majority of her diet is the dog food. Dog food companies go through some rigorous testing to make sure a diet is healthy & more importantly, balanced, which is almost impossible to do with a home cooked diet. Boiled veggies such as carrots, potato, broccoli etc are all fine to give as treats, but they should not make up the majority of Shiro's diet. You should make sure he is on a balanced diet of puppy food to ensure he grows up strong and healthy. However, if he likes snacking on some potato or carrot, that should be fine to give him - just make sure it is plain boiled and doesn't have any added spices or sauces on it which may cause an upset stomach.

She looks like an appropriate body condition so far, and since she is only 4 months old it is hard to know how big she will ultimately get. I recommend feeding her a normal puppy dry dog food, and feeding the recommended amount on the bag for her weight. It is safe to add in vegetables such as peas, carrots, broccoli, etc - but NO onions or garlic. Most fruits are safe too, such a berries, bananas, watermelon, etc. Hard boiled eggs are safe, but they are high in cholesterol so I wouldn't feed her more than 1/2 per day. Please keep in mind that a good quality puppy diet on its own will have ALL the nutrients and vitamins that she needs to grow appropriately, so it is not necessary to add in extra food. In fact, this could actually cause her to grow too quickly and become overweight, which can cause extra strain on the joints and predispose her to boney issues in the future. I hope this is helpful!

Butternut squash and sweet potato are both fine to give to Dogz as a treat. They are both high in fiber, and can be used to help with constipation issues and regulating the GI tract, however many owners will give dried versions of both as an alternative to chew toys/bones that are easier to digest and safer to eat. As with any people food, moderation is best, and if Dogz has any underlying allergies or health issues, it is always best to confirm it is OK to give with your regular veterinarian first.

Potatoes are safe for dogs to eat, as long as they are cooked and given in small pieces so that dogs do not choke on them. Potatoes are high in carbs, but provide vitamins including vitamins A and C, as well as iron. Pieces of cooked potato can be given as a small snack, but should not constitute a large portion of your pet's diet. I hope this is helpful!

Hello, and thanks for your question. As long as Chloe tolerates the treats and they don't cause any GI upset, dehydrated meat and pumpkin treats are good options - just make sure she's still getting the majority of her calories from a complete and balanced food such as royal canin. Hope this helps!
