What antibiotics are safe for my chihuahua's mouth infection?

In America you need a prescription for clindamycin. I recommend you have your veterinarian give Tink a prescription for pulsed antibiotics. For dogs with dental disease I recommend giving antibiotics for one week every month on a regular basis. That will help control the plaque and periodontal disease. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sabrina! Sabrina needs the tooth extracted in order to eliminate the infection permanently. Antibiotics are just a bandaid. Once they are stopped the infection will return. Clindamycin and Clavamox are good choices for oral infections. I hope this helps and I wish Sabrina the best!

Clindamycin is a very safe antibiotic. Depending on the manufacturer they can have different concentrations. If you could post the number of milligrams per ML listed on the bottle it would help if the dosage is correct. However it does seem like a good dose me. There are no known risk of a pet being on clindamycin prior to anesthesia and in fact it is a very common drug before a dental cleaning is done.

Clavamox is the most commonly used antibiotic in the world for dog bites (also in humans by the way). it's rare but sometimes clavamox won't work in such a case, my next antibiotic choices would be Metronidazole or Cephalexin. you will still need to get them from your vet though.
