What's a healthy weight for my 14-week Golden Retriever puppy?

Hello. Your picture seems to show a very healthy young dog, but without being able to feel how prominent the ribs & backbone can be palpated, it is impossible to ascertain his condition. A dog, under a year of age, should have some muscle & fat protecting the underlying skeletal structure. With just a little pressure, you should be able to feel ribs & backbone, not sharp points. That is a better way to tell than just by weight because size & bone structure can affect things. If there is a fairly good layer of flesh on your dog, he should be just fine. She does look a little underweight, first of all i would recommend taking her to the vet for a checkup, there might be a medical reason for her being undeweight and this must be ruled out first thing. if she is cleared by the vet, you should switch her food to a high quality grain free diet such as Orijen, Evolve or Taste of the wild, you can feed her 3 times a day until she starts gaining weight.

Because Ghontu is a Golden Retriever, her full weight can be between 65-75 pounds. At about five months of age (19 weeks), she should be around 3/4s of her full grown weight, and her weight of 46 pounds is normal. It is expected that she will continue to grow every day, and I would not be concerned about her weight.

The smallest can be around 5 and the largest around 17 pounds. The amount she is eating seems appropriate for her size. Have a great day!

Hi Fred! Male Neutered Golden Retrievers should weigh between 65-75 pounds. 90lbs may be a little overweight for Milo. You should be able to easily feel Milo's ribs but not see them. When you look from above, he should be an hourglass shape. When you look at Milo from the side while he stands, his midsection should have an upward slope. Extra supplements can mean extra calories for Milo, so I would talk to your primary are veterinarian about the possibility of starting Milo on particular supplements based on his need and medical history. Oh my goodness, too much cuteness!!! Any of the premium dog foods are good. The pet food industry has come a very long way in recent years. I am a personal fan of Purina foods. Which ever food you choose I would recommend that it be one specifically formulated for large breed dogs. As far as how much to feed, the recommendations on the bag are generally a good guideline. You just want to make sure that you are weighing Toby every couple of weeks and adjusting the amount of food accordingly. The goal is to ensure that he is receiving his nutrients, but also to make sure he is not an overweight puppy (or adult). His hips and joints will thank you later.
