Is it safe to syringe water to a panting cat while she's giving birth?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

Hi, I was just asking. Can you give your cat water through a syringe whilst giving birth? My mama cat is panting and had her tongue out and I was just wondering if I could do that? Or is it too dangerous and could trigger the labor?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I would be sure Mochi is in a quiet cool place with out many people and other animals. When stressed cats can delay labor. I would leave her be and check on her every 30 mins. If she has been actively contracting for more than 2 hours with out a birth of a kitten I would have her seen by a Vet as that could indicate a problem.

I wish Mochi the best!
