Should I worry if my cat pants at birth spot after delivery?

Panting can be normal after giving birth. Lactation will stimulate the uterus to contract during the first two weeks after giving birth, thus leading to the panting. Make sure Twitch is eating and drinking normally, has a normal vagina discharge, and has a normal temperature (between 101-102.5F). If this panting increasing, she stops nursing her kittens, she has a fever, or has any other concerning signs, take Twitch and her kittens into a vet immediately.

It sounds like this cat needs a c-section. Cats rarely have issues giving birth so there is definitely a problem. More oxytocin is not likely to help. I suggest you call the vet back and take her for surgery. If the vet is not available just keep the cat in a calm, quiet area until you can get to the vet in the morning.

If she isn't close to being due she should see a Vet right away. I would have her somewhere quiet and calm. Keep children, a lot of people and animals out. If there isn't a kitten born in 2 hours with this panting she should be seen by a Vet. Panting in cats is not normal in any other situation. I wish you the best!

Hello, yes kittens can have nursing behaviors that include seeking more attention from you and nursing her kitten. However, keep a close eye on her and make sure she is not continuing to have more contractions without being able to produce another kitten. Most frequently, cats will have multiple kittens at birth, not a single one. If you suspect she is not able to deliver the rest of her kittens, then you should consider having her evaluated by her primary care veterinarian for a possible dystocia. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be sure Mochi is in a quiet cool place with out many people and other animals. When stressed cats can delay labor. I would leave her be and check on her every 30 mins. If she has been actively contracting for more than 2 hours with out a birth of a kitten I would have her seen by a Vet as that could indicate a problem. I wish Mochi the best!

The only way to know for sure is to have an x-ray taken by your vet. If she is still panting and having contractions, then this is a sign that she isn't finished delivering pups yet - so if she's doing this and hasn't had any pups in the past hour, I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet for x-rays. Normally, when labor is finished, the mother will settle down and lick her puppies (or puppy, in this case) and allow them to nurse. If she still seems distressed and panting, or is still having visible contractions, then I would be concerned that there may be one or more puppies still inside her.

I would not be worried about anything at this stage based on your description. However, I recommend you speak to your vet about deworming for mom and the kittens. They can start deworming as early as 2 weeks of age. The diarrhea may be normal due to hormonal changes, could be diet related or it may be due to worms.
