My kitten is in heat. How do I stop my male cat from mating?

It's very possible that she might be - most female cats will go into heat by around 6 months of age, and this will certainly attract males to the area. I would recommend having her spayed if you aren't planning to breed her, as she will be in heat almost constantly until this is done.

4 months of age is very young for a cat to be in heat but she certainly could be, especially since she is a Siamese. If you have any concern that there could be another reason for her behavior than have your vet take a look at her. If she is in heat than it will last on average about 7 days and she may go back into heat 1-3 weeks later. She is old enough to be spayed so talk to your vet about the best time to have her spayed. There really isn't much you can do to help her, just make sure she doesn't get outside or around any male cats.

Yes, it is probably better not to walk her when she is in heat. Cats often will stay in heat until they get bred so my recommendation is that if you don't plan on breeding her you should have her spayed ASAP. Otherwise this is going to be a constant issue. Cats will tend to have a recurring heat cycle until they are bred, so if she isn't yet pregnant, she is likely to continue to have interest in the male, and the male in her. If you do not wish to have kittens, getting both your female spayed and your male neutered can prevent this, as well as reduce/stop the heat-related behaviors.
