This is typically on the young side but not impossible. Generally they reach sexual maturity around 6-8 months but some have been reported as early as 4-5 months. It is best to keep them separate or have him fixed to prevent any unwanted kittens

Every cat is different but yes there is a possibility he can at 5 months as that is the start of puberty for some. I would contact your vet to see if they can do it at 5 months given the circumstance as there is not little size difference in 1 month.
