My 6-month-old kitten: is she in heat if male cats are spraying?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 8 days old | 4 lbs

My kitten is 6 months old and the male cats in our community have been coming to our door spraying. Does this mean she's in heat?

It's very possible that she might be - most female cats will go into heat by around 6 months of age, and this will certainly attract males to the area. I would recommend having her spayed if you aren't planning to breed her, as she will be in heat almost constantly until this is done.
