When can I walk my cats if one is in heat and they can't be separated?

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

I have a stray mommy cat who is in heat I also have her baby cat who is 9 months old I want to take the baby cat on a walk but they freak out when separate so do I wait until the mommy cat is no longer in heat to take both of them walking.

Yes, it is probably better not to walk her when she is in heat. Cats often will stay in heat until they get bred so my recommendation is that if you don't plan on breeding her you should have her spayed ASAP. Otherwise this is going to be a constant issue.

I'm not sure of the age or sex of the "baby cat" but if that kitten is a male then I suggest you separate them once he is 6 months of age otherwise he will breed her when she is in heat.......

No they are not in pain. However since cats are induced ovulators, they will basically stay in heat until they find a tom to mate with. They will be in heat for three weeks, then stop, then go into heat again continuously until pregnant. So if you do not intend to have kittens, I suggest you have them spayed asap. You can give them a bath while they are in heat, however it is not really necessary to bathe cats once a month.

4 months of age is very young for a cat to be in heat but she certainly could be, especially since she is a Siamese. If you have any concern that there could be another reason for her behavior than have your vet take a look at her. If she is in heat than it will last on average about 7 days and she may go back into heat 1-3 weeks later. She is old enough to be spayed so talk to your vet about the best time to have her spayed. There really isn't much you can do to help her, just make sure she doesn't get outside or around any male cats.

You are welcome, I was glad to help you! Queens can go into heat after kittens, but I would not mate Nancy. She needs to focus on her kittens. Keep all intact males away from her, and keep her in her nesting area with her kittens. She should not be mated again until her kittens are weaned, around five to six weeks of age. Best of luck.
