Can my rabbit catch conjunctivitis from my roommate's cats?

Hi, I've never heard of a cat being allergic to a rabbit but it is possible she got some dust in her eyes. I suggest monitoring her eyes for redness, greenish discharge or cloudiness. If you don't see any of that, she should be okay. If you do see those signs, I suggest taking her to a vet to have her eyes checked. You can try rinsing her eyes our with eye wash or saline for eyes and seeing if that help in case she got some dust or something irritable in her eyes. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi and thank you for this question. Yes, in theory the same bacteria from your cats sneezing can cause snuffles to your rabbit (although rabbits usually get it from other rabbits). It is recommended that you have your cats examined by a vet, and also tjat you minimize their contact Topaz.

If your cat's respiratory signs are due to a virus, these are species-specific and not contagious to rabbits. However, if the respiratory issues are related to Mycoplasma or Chlamydia, these infections are contagious to rabbits. If testing has not been done on your cat to identify the precise cause of the respiratory signs, it would be best to keep your cat and rabbit separated until the respiratory signs have resolved. Cute bunny, and congratulations on your new family member. Yes, it is pretty common for bunnies to get eye infections but there are a number of different reasons for them. The most common of those include a blocked tear duct that would normal drain extra tears from the eye into the nose, an abrasion or scratch, or an E. Cuniculi infection. A blocked tear duct can be caused by something as simple as a dusty brand of hay to something as complex as a chronic tooth issue. In a bunny as young as yours the chronic condition is less likely. Unfortunately, the only good way to tell if there is a blockage is for a vet to stain the eye and see if the colored stain drains into the nose as it should. If it is blocked, the vet can flush it out. They could also get a very superficial look at the teeth to see if they appear normal. The vet would be likely to give you some medication to help the irritated skin in front of the eye heal faster as well, for now please keep that area as clean and dry as possible.

Most upper respiratory infections are species specific, meaning that cats can't transmit them to dogs (and vice-versa) - so it's unlikely that your dog would be able to catch this infection from the kitten. But if she does, it should be easily treated with medication from your veterinarian. If Raven continues to have runny eyes, or develops squinting, redness, or other signs of a problem, I would recommend taking her to the vet for a check-up. If needed, the vet can prescribe antibiotic eye drops or oral antibiotics for her to help get things cleared up :)

Feline Herpes is not contagious to people as people herpes is not contagious to cats. As long as you wash your hands and do not touch your eye after handling Abba you shouldn't contract a bacterial infection from her. If your Vet cultured a specific bacterial from Abba you should ask them about the zoonotic potential of that bacteria. I hope this helps and I wish you both the best!
