Can my dog catch an eye infection from my cat with runny eyes?

It is treated with antibiotic eye drops/ointment and oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. if left untreated many cats will end up blind or even die from the disease. I would be surprised if your sister’s illness spread to your cats as I can’t think of any human virus that would cause diarrhea or upper respiratory signs that could be spread to cats. It’s possible that the cats have something contagious however. The diarrhea could be viral or due to parasites. The eye and nose discharge sounds like symptoms of a viral upper respiratory infection. If the discharge is clear antibiotics might not be necessary. I would recommend having a vet examine your cat - they can prescribe appropriate medication.

The virus responsible for rhinotracheitis is specific to cats and cannot be transmitted to ferrets. One of the most concerning diseases for transmission from dogs to ferrets is canine distemper virus.
