Is my cat's eye infection contagious to me? My eye is inflamed.

This is a great question! The scientific name for pseudomonas is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and it is a bacteria that can infect multiple species including humans. That being said, in order for it to infect humans, there needs to be some sort of skin compromise, such as a skin allergy or other skin problem that can invite a pseudomonas infection. As long as you are not immunocompromised and wash your hands after each time you touch Bey Bey, including after each time you give her medication, you should be fine. If you are truly worried, you can wear disposable gloves while handling her and giving her medication, but that won't be necessary. I hope this helps!

Eye infections will need to be seen and treated by a veterinarian as the cat may have a viral or bacterial infection of the eye which may need antibiotics or other eye medications as necessary. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Depending on what the cause is, it is possible this could be due to a viral cause. If viral, it is definitely possible that it can be transmitted from cat to cat. Toxoplasmosis is another possibility that I wou ld suspect and this also can be transmitted to your other cat through infected feces. I would recommend that Lucy be tested for toxoplasmosis and go on a course of an antibiotic. I would keep the 2 cats separated for about a 7-10 days if possible. I hope this helps! It is hard to say exactly what the lesion above the stray cat's eye may be without examining it first, but some possibilities may include a bite wound or abscess, bacterial infection, or a fungal infection such as ringworm which can be contagious. You may want to call your local animal control and let them know about the stray cat around your area. Perhaps they may be able to get the cat seen by a veterinarian for treatment and also to have the cat scanned for a microchip (if it has one) which may provide information about its owner. Until more information can be found out about the stray cat, I would recommend limiting your cat's contact with the stray. I hope this helps!

Test him for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) at your veterinarian's clinic to rule these possible causes out. Some cats will have chronic viral infections their entire life and we just treat these as they come. If you are not giving lysine supplementation and not giving Purine Fortiflora, I would definitely recommend doing so as both of these have been shown to lessen the severity and duration of the herpes virus flare ups. I would also consider an upper respiratory culture to make sure that there are no other bacterial causes that may be resistant to the antibiotics currently being given. I hope this helps! If the current treatment is not working well, it may be time to consider switching to a different antibiotic. If this is viral, an antiviral drug might be considered if this is bad enough.
