Why is my mother cat crying and howling after losing kittens?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She could be coming in to heat again if the remaining kitten is weaned and over 6 weeks of age. I know in previous posts that she recently lost a kitten, she could be more searching for that one. She will need more time to adjust to the lose of that kitten. I wish you the best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finella! I am assuming the kittens are weaned and at new homes? If so then she will be fine soon. Try to keep everything stable and the routines the same. Animals can pick up on our distress too. She is still hormonal in a sense but will slowly get over the kittens growing up and leaving. The other possibility is that she is in heat again. Cats can go right back in to heat quickly after the kittens are weaned. If the kittens are still int eh house, gradually limit her time with them. However, this could be her expressing her discomfort if she is not feeling well. The most likely reason for this behavior is that she is in heat. Usually that is the only reason cats will howl (other than severe pain). If you think she is in pain she needs to see a vet. Otherwise, she is just in heat. Best wishes.

She may very well be back in heat. Typically, a female cat will go back into heat 6-8 after delivering a litter of kittens. Some can be ready as soon as a week afterwards. This can certainly be compounding the stress or losing one of her kittens. Maintain as much of a normal a schedule with her as you can. Do not force attention on her though. Keep her remaining kittens close and make sure she is nursing regularly.

She is likely crying due to hormonal imbalance. She may be in heat again. She may be pregnant, I don't know as I haven't examined her. I suggest you get to a vet and if she is not pregnant she needs to be spayed ASAP. She sounds like she is very sensitive to hormones and that is not going to stop without spaying. Cats do not show that they "miss" their babies or their other families by crying out loud. That is not normal.

It could be that Precious has gone into heat again! Cats can go back into heat relatively quickly after having kittens. That would cause her to be more vocal than usual. She could also be more vocal because she's communicating with her kittens. They are born with their eyes shut and their ear canals closed, and they stay that way their first few weeks of life. As their ear canals open, the cat uses her voice to communicate with them. If you don't want Precious to have any more kittens, I would make an appointment with the vet to have her spayed after her kittens are weaned. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
