My cat cries after kittens left. How to help a sad mom cat?

Hello. It is possible that something got her kittens & she is distressed over this. Only time will help. It is possible that she also in heat again & a cat in heat is a very vocal cat. I would try to follow her to see if you can find the kittens. If she does not seem to want to find the kittens, then they may indeed be gone. However, this could be her expressing her discomfort if she is not feeling well. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is no longer near where the kittens would be then you will have to assume she is done. I would give her a month or so to dry out. It does take time after kittens are weaned for the milk to stop coming, so finding milk still present isn't abnormal. There is not real way to tell otherwise. She will go back in to heat soon so keep her indoors. I wish you the best!

She may very well be back in heat. Typically, a female cat will go back into heat 6-8 after delivering a litter of kittens. Some can be ready as soon as a week afterwards. This can certainly be compounding the stress or losing one of her kittens. Maintain as much of a normal a schedule with her as you can. Do not force attention on her though. Keep her remaining kittens close and make sure she is nursing regularly.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. Pets do mourn and this is highly individual how long this will last, just like humans. There are some things you can do at home which may help the remaining cats to feel more comfortable. Stick to a routine, pets generally do best if they know what to expect. Considering using a Feliway diffuser which dispenses feel good pheromones. Set aside 30 minutes a day for vigorous play with the cats. Provide climbing and hiding opportunities in the house.
