Why is my cat meowing constantly 4 weeks after having kittens?

Hello, yes kittens can have nursing behaviors that include seeking more attention from you and nursing her kitten. However, keep a close eye on her and make sure she is not continuing to have more contractions without being able to produce another kitten. Most frequently, cats will have multiple kittens at birth, not a single one. If you suspect she is not able to deliver the rest of her kittens, then you should consider having her evaluated by her primary care veterinarian for a possible dystocia. Cats are often going into heat within 2 weeks after weaning the kittens. The discharge is called lochia and can last several weeks after the kittens are born. I recommend spaying these cats right around the time the kittens are weaned, or within that 2 week period after, to insure they do not get bred again. Then you won't have to worry about Shadow having another litter.

Hello, and thanks for your question about Mino. Cats can meow for lots of reasons, and some are naturally more vocal than others. This can change over. It’s definitely possible that she’s simply looking for social interaction from you - but she also could be asking for more food. Nursing is an enormous energy demand, and so nursing females do need to eat a bit more. So, she may be hungrier than usual! Keep an eye on her weight, and feel free to give her a bit extra food if you notice she’s slimming down at all. Otherwise, just give her a little extra love. :-) Hope this helps!

Cats will remain in heat until they have found a tomcat to engage with. So, unless she had a boyfriend to impregnate her she will not come out of heat. If you do not want kittens you should be kind to her and have her spayed.

Hello, sorry to hear about Buttercup. She may be experiencing some post partum pain. This should improve in several days. Ensure Buttercup is getting adequate amount of food and water. You can offer her kitten food as well while she is nursing. She can eat as ofter as every 6 hours. If her meowing does not improve, if she does not want to eat or drink, she has tremors, or is weak and lethargic, haver her evaluated by your veterinarian immediately. Hello. It is possible that something got her kittens & she is distressed over this. Only time will help. It is possible that she also in heat again & a cat in heat is a very vocal cat. I would try to follow her to see if you can find the kittens. If she does not seem to want to find the kittens, then they may indeed be gone. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Starting her heat cycle in a unspayed female cat is the most common reason for increased vocalization. Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her. You can also consider a Vet exam to be sure it isn't a medical condition. If she is otherwise fine, I hope that is improves with time and some of the above. Have a great day!
