My new momma cat has diarrhea and bad-smelling stool. Is this normal?

As long as she continues to eat well, this should slowly resolve over the course of the next 3-4 days. If it does not, or if Naughtt develops any other unusual clinical signs, I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian, as an unrelated issue may be present. I hope this is helpful!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It appears that there is more mucous than I would like to see in the stool. This could be due to the diet and it could also be due to intestinal parasites. I would recommend switching food to a kitten food and see if that helps. If it does not improve and continues to progress, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her poop sample to check for intestinal parasites. I hope this helps! Hello. I am so sorry for your concerns with Momo. The dark color of the stool does not overly concern me as this can reflect something he has eaten, but with the diarrhea, it may be something inflammatory in his intestines, or even parasites. If he has not been wormed in a while, I would have your veterinarian check his stool just to make sure. If everything is OK, your veterinarian may make some recommendations to address the diarrhea, including the possible use of antibiotics, probiotics or a dietary change. I recommend that you have Ivy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. IT is possible that Myrtle is not passing stool is secondary to the diarrhea. Sometimes after a few days of diarrhea it will take a few days for fecal material to build back up in the colon and produce a normal bowel movement. I would not be concerned if Myrtle does not defecate for a few days as long as she is eating and playing. Typically I would recommend picking 1 food and sticking with it. switching foods can cause diarrhea/soft stool. Some cats are picker than other about the food or dry vs wet. I would recommend feeding whatever you find Myrtle likes to eat. hope that helps

That is not normal. She probably had a difficult birthing and there was a lot of pressure on the nerves controlling the anal tone and GI motility. With time the nerves that were damaged should recover and I would expect the fecal incontinence to improve. Other than time there is not much else to do.
