Why is my male cat licking, sniffing, and biting our new male kitten?

If you are concerned that the male cat may injure the kittens then I would recommend you keep them separated at all times. However, I will say that it is normal for older cats (usually the momma cat) to teach the young kittens discipline and proper behavior by mewing at them, bopping them and nipping at them. It's fine that Benji plays with the new kitten, and it is normal behavior that he purrs and meows at him. Getting him fixed is a great idea! If he was kept intact, he would show dominance behavior over him by biting his neck and making humping motions, but he wouldn't be trying to mate with him. It's just a way cats can show dominance over another cat.

If the new cat isn’t neutered that needs to be done right away. If he’s neutered then I would use a pheromone diffuser like Feliway, and consider giving a calming supplement like Solliquin. If needed clap you hands and say No, or distract him with a treat, toy or laser pointer so he has another acceptable thing to do. Usually once the dominance issue is resolved this behavior will stop. I would recommend neutering him soon to help decrease these behaviors a bit. In addition, neutering him will help lessen the risks of cancers later in life as well as help decrease the feral cat population.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach. I would recommend giving them time to adjust to each other. This may be Cheech trying to establish dominance over the kitten. I would recommend gradually introducing them to each other over a period of 4 to 6 weeks. I would also recommend incorporating Feliway products to see if this helps. It does usually take a few months for all the hormones to dissipate post neutering, however if the cat was neutered at a much older age, he may still have some of the behaviors/interest even without the ability. Keeping the cats separated if this behavior occurs, or even adding in a pheromone diffuser (such as Feliway) may help with inter-cat interactions.

When they groom around their penis it can become erect. It may also be time to get him neutered. If he is excessively grooming down there he should see a Vet and have his urine tested.
