My neutered male cat still mounts and bites my female cat. What to do?

Once all the male hormones have left the younger one's body, this should stop. It sometimes takes a few weeks (3+) for all the male hormones to go. Now that the younger one has no more testicles, there will not be any significant testosterone production anymore. Your older fellow is a sweetie and obviously not too worried and might see it just as play. As long as they do not have serious fights, I would not worry about it.

Cats can exhibit mounting behavior of other cats and objects like pillows. The behavior is generally benign (there is not penetration) unless one cat bites the back of the neck too hard (this could break the skin an cause an abscess). Most cats will not tolerate this and will let the other cat know. Certainly stop the behavior is one cat is being bullied or there is a risk of physical harm. Some play behavior can also look like mounting (with mouthing, climbing on the other cat) but it's just wrestling. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If the new cat isn’t neutered that needs to be done right away. If he’s neutered then I would use a pheromone diffuser like Feliway, and consider giving a calming supplement like Solliquin. If needed clap you hands and say No, or distract him with a treat, toy or laser pointer so he has another acceptable thing to do. Usually once the dominance issue is resolved this behavior will stop. It takes 4-6weeks after neutering before the hormones and related behavior subsides. Be aware however that not all bad behavior is hormonal and some cats will never be friends and many need to be segregated. Calming diets and supplements such as kalm aid can help alongside the feliway

Hi there! Behavioral issues in cats can definitely be frustrating. Obsessive mounting can often be attributed to underlying anxiety. I would recommend trying an anxiety reducing pheromone product called Feliway. It comes in diffusers, sprays, and collars and often helps multi-cat household behavior problems. If there is no improvement with Feliway, I would recommend talking to your vet about putting Max on a trial of anti-anxiety medication to see if that helps.

I have never heard of one cat killing another over mating issues, so you shouldn't need to worry about this :) However, I'm sure it is annoying for your female cat to have him constantly trying to mount her, and this can certainly lead to developing aggression issues between the cats over time. I would try to get your male kitty neutered as soon as possible, to help prevent this from continuing to happen. In the meantime, if he won't leave her alone, you may need to keep them separated until after he is neutered.

If he is neutered it is a dominant behaviour rather than a sexual behaviour, in other words he is bullying her. you can try separating them during the night but there is no easy fix for such a behaviour.
