Should my 1-month-old kitten still drink milk after eating wet food?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the milk you are giving is milk replacer, this should be continued until Missy is 8 weeks old. You can continue to transition her to hard kibble when she is about 8 weeks old. By that time, she should be eating hard kibble and you can discontinue the milk replacer. She is likely not drinking water as much due to getting her liquid from the wet food and milk replacer. She will begin to drink more water as you transition her to hard kibble. I hope this helps!

At two months of age, Zuri is old enough to eat dry food on her own and there is no need to give her dry food with water or milk in it. You can give her wet food as part of her diet or as an occasional treat. I hope this helps :-)

If the kitten is 1-2 months old than she should be able to eat some regular cat food, especially if you get wet food and add some water to it. Human baby formula is not ideal but if you can't get kitten milk replacer and she is not eating solid food than you could give her some. It would be best to use a kitten formula or just regular cat food. Most kittens than are 2 months old are ready to be weaned from their mothers.

Kittens can be offered semi solid food (kitten mousse or softened kitten kibble) from 14days of age and will wean gradually then once food is available, most kittens will control their own food intake depending on how much milk is available from mother, feeding guidelines are appropriate once fully weaned and should be on the bag (they vary by brand, age and weight of kitten). Be sure to deworm her also as worms are passed through the mothers milk to kittens.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 4 weeks old Almond should be very close to or completely weaned and eating kitten food. I would start feeding her canned kitten food and provide water in a dish. I personally do not think a cat or dog would drink from a sippy cup.I wouldn't stress over the sippy cup I would just get her off the bottle and provide fresh water in a dish. At 4-5 weeks, kittens should be transitioning to solid foods, so it would be best to mix in the KMR with the wet food into a sort of slurry to help with the transition and make it easier to digest. You can also weigh Cleo with a food scale or other small scale to get her weight in ounces which can help you determine how big she is. Most kittens at this age will still needed to be fed several times a day. If your kitten is eating all wet food, he will get most of his water needs from the food. I would hold back on the steamed fish, only offering it as a treat, as more than that may upset the nutritional balance of the kitten food you're feeding. Also, if he is weaned, he does not need milk and may develop diarrhea if he gets too much. Again, a little taste, as long as there are no adverse effects is fine. Always make sure he has clean, fresh water available, but don't worry if you don't see him drink. To make sure he's getting enough water, you can mix some in with his wet food and/or offer him some low sodium chicken broth to drink. As long as he is healthy, happy and active, then you're doing the right thing.
