Is dry food okay for a 2-month-old kitten or should it be wet?

The answer is up to you and your cat. Some cats prefer dry only, some wet only, some enjoy both. Kitten food is still needed at six months of age and will be until he is a year old. Cats are carnivores, and canned, pate-type wet food is the closest to what they would get in the wild. Dry food has to have some carbohydrates in the form of grains or vegetable pulp in order to be made into dry nuggets. Cats have a very low carbohydrate requirement and some gain excess weight on dry food. Feed the best food you can afford. My personal favorites are Science Diet and Royal Canin. Both offer excellent quality, specifically formulated diets that are nutritionally complete for your pet's life stage and condition and both offer money-back guarantees if your pet doesn't like them. Just make sure when switching to a new food to introduce it gradually. Transition your pet onto a new food by offering the old food in one bowl and a mix of 1/4 new food and 3/4 old food in another bowl next to it. Do this for a week, then offer 1/2-1/2 new/old food in the second bowl for a week. Change to 3/4 new-1/4 old for a week and gradually stop putting old food in the first bowl. By the end of the month she should be transitioned to the new food with a minimum of digestive upset.

You should feed her kitten food, canned food if possible because it adds water to her diet since most cats don't drink a ton of water. This in turn helps promote good urinary and kidney health long term. You should get a high quality kitten food such as Fromm, Hills science diet, Royal Canin, Evo or Eukanuba. Hello, and thank you for your question. Misu is an adorable name! At almost 2 months of age, your kitten should not need kitten formula, especially if she is eating regular food. When they are kitten (up to 10-12 months in fact) I recommend free feeding. This should include a combination of wet food (twice a day) and dry food, left out. The most important thing is to make she he eats, period. Cats cannot go more than a couple of days without eating or they are at risk of suffering liver damage. It is not necessary for a cat to exclusively eat dry or wet food, but wet food can actually be better for them as it is closest to the meat they would get if they were forced to hunt instead of us feeding them. Dry food contains carbohydrates as binders and to allow the food to be dehydrated into kibble, but cats don't have a requirement for carbohydrates. You can try to entice him to eat dry food by wetting it with water or some low-sodium chicken broth, adding a spoonful of wet food and mixing it thoroughly, warming it (testing it before feeding for excessive heat just as you would for a small child), or some combination.

If the kitten is 1-2 months old than she should be able to eat some regular cat food, especially if you get wet food and add some water to it. Human baby formula is not ideal but if you can't get kitten milk replacer and she is not eating solid food than you could give her some. It would be best to use a kitten formula or just regular cat food. Most kittens than are 2 months old are ready to be weaned from their mothers.
