My 4-week-old kitten fell and is coughing. What should I watch for?

Poor girl. You will need to take her to the vet for this. If she swallowed something that she shouldn’t have, it may have gone down her trachea instead of her esophagus , which is why she has a cough. The vet needs to listen to her lungs using a stethoscope and possibly even do chicest radiographs on her to evaluate her lungs. I recommend scheduling an appt right away. Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your kitten. Just watch her for any signs of continued nose bleed, decrease in appetite, lethargy, facial swelling, change in mentation, wobbly when walking. If she acts normal, is eating, drinking, interacting the same without any problems most likely she is going to be fine. Kittens are very resilient but it is always good to check when these sorts of accidents happen. Best of luck!

Kittens are pretty resilient, & we often see these heart stopping accidents with absolutely no serious effects to the cat or kitten. If the kitten seems comfortable, no difficulty or abnormal breathing, then he should be fine. Take your kitten to a veterinarian as soon as posdible in the event of trauma like this. Many things can happen including broken bones, damage to the lungs, lacerated organs, etc. Many times they fall on their faces and have facial or jaw fractures. A full exam will be performed and xrays will likely be recommended. Hopefully your kitten is okay and some pain medication can be prescribed. I am so sorry to hear about Creole! Unfortunately there isn't much we can do in terms of at-home care here other than closely monitoring for worsening/changes such as vomiting, difficulty breathing, vomiting, not wanting to eat/drink, change in voice/meow. If these occur or his coughing doesn't resolve, you could see if there is a low cost clinic near you- sometimes an animal shelter/humane society will have a low cost clinic, or you may be able to find a vet clinic in your area that offers payment plans or takes Care Credit or another credit extension service. Poor little Coffee! It sounds like he suffered some trauma from this fall, and if he fell two floors, having him seen by a vet now would be fast. He is a young kitten, and they can be very fragile, and it's always recommended to have any kitten or cat checked out after a trauma to make sure there are no internal injuries. In my opinion, it would best to take him into a vet for a health check just to be safe. I hope this helps!

You need to monitor her closely in the next 48 hours, the sneezing is probably from falling on the nose and that should resolve soon enough. you also need to check the eye every day and make sure the pus does not get worse, if it does then there is an active infection and you will need to take her to the vet to get it treated.
