My kitten swallowed something, coughed blood, now has a shivery cough. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I think my kitten might’ve swallowed something and she started to cough blood, it stopped but she still has a shivery cough. I have her some water and she’s sleeping now. I don’t really know what to do.

Poor girl. You will need to take her to the vet for this. If she swallowed something that she shouldn’t have, it may have gone down her trachea instead of her esophagus , which is why she has a cough. The vet needs to listen to her lungs using a stethoscope and possibly even do chicest radiographs on her to evaluate her lungs. I recommend scheduling an appt right away.
I really hope your fue baby is able to make a full and speedy recovery soon! Best wishes and take care.
